Name:Zita Maria Almeida do Vale
Nationality: Portuguese
Academic Titles

  • Graduated (Licenciatura) in Electrical Engineering at Porto University in 1986
  • Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1993 from Porto University
  • Agregação in Electrical and Computer Engineering – Power Systems from Porto University in 2003

Academic Career
  • From 1986 to 1993 - Teaching assistant at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto
  • From 1993 to 1998 - Assistant Professor of Power Systems at the Same Department
  • Since 1998 - Coordinating Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Engineering (ISEP) of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto
  • Since 1999 - Director of the Programme on Electrical Engineering – Power Systems
  • Since 2003 - Director of the Post-Graduate Programme on Electrical Installations
  • She has been responsible for several undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of Power Systems

R&D Activities
  • Main research interests: Artificial Intelligence Applications, Decision-Support Systems, Power Transmission, Power Distribution, Artificial Intelligence Applications to Power Systems, Electricity Market Restructuring and Energy and Sustainable Development
  • Member of GECAD – Knowledge Engineering and Decision-Support Research Group, coordinates the Knowledge-based Systems and the Power Systems Groups
  • Coordinates R&D projects in the area of Artificial Intelligence and Power Systems, concerning namely the development of Intelligent Applications for Power System operation, Decision Support tools for the energy field, Electricity Markets and Sustainable Development in the Energy field. These projects involve both academic and industrial partners.
  • Published more than 200 scientific papers, more than 120 being in international conferences and 30 in international scientific journals and books
  • Has supervised more than 20 MSc Thesis and 15 PhD Thesis.
